BY NFCA STAFF| Outstanding Players for the week of March 15-21, 1999

Courtney Blades, University of Southern Mississippi, Pitcher, Junior Courtney improved her record to 20-2 on the year with a 3-0 record this weekend at the RINGOR Winthrop Invitational. Blades opened the tournament with a five-inning no-hitter (8-0 win) against College of Charleston in which she struck out 14 of the 15 outs. The only other out recorded was a line drive that she fielded. Blades continued her dominance the next day with a 6-0 no-hit victory against Virginia Tech. In that contest, Blades whiffed 14 Virginia Tech batters. She followed her consecutive no hitters with a two-hit eight inning, 18 strikeout game against No. 15 Illinois-Chicago in USM's 3-0 win. For the weekend, Blades was 3-0 in 20 innings pitched, allowed just two hits, 0 runs and struck out 47. Opponents batted .034 agai

Stacy Gemeinhardt, of, University of Missouri. Stacy continues to be one of Missouri's most consistent hitters. She had the game-winning hit (two-run single) in Saturday's win over Illinois State. She had two big hits in Missouri's win over Western Michigan. She had an RBI triple to put the Tigers up 1-0 in the second inning and the game-winning hit in the fourth. Missouri won the Missouri Invitational with a 6-0 tournament record. For the tournament, Gemeinhardt batted .455 (10-for-22) with two triples, three RBI and 14 total bases and a slugging pct. of .636. She was 4-for-4 on stolen base attempts.

Samantha Iuli, p/1b, University of Illinois-Chicago. Iuli was 6-1 with one save, an 0.88 ERA and 50 strikeouts for UIC last week. She batted .400 with five home runs, two doubles and 16 RBI.

P Danielle Cassara, University of New Mexico
Cassara, a junior from Long Beach, Calif., had an outstanding week on the mound as she continues to put up All-America numbers. In three games this past week, she was 3-0 in three starts with three complete-game shutouts. Two of her shutouts were one-hitters. She averaged a strikeout per inning in 25 innings of work, and gave up just four walks. Against #19 South Florida, she held the host Bulls scoreless, then hit a two run home run, her eighth, in the seventh inning to win the game, 2-0. Against Virginia, she shut out the Cavaliers for 11 innings to earn the win. For the week, opponents hit just .098 against her. For the season, Cassara is 13-0 in 13 starts, with 13 complete games, 10 shutouts, a 0.38 ERA, and a strikeout to walk ratio of 84-9. She also has already tied the UNM school record for home runs in a season with nine.

Aimee Reiner, Marshall University, Soph., C/3B, West Covina, CA (Covina High School). Reiner hit .500 (9-for-18) in five games at the Winthrop Invitational over the weekend Ö She helped the Thundering Herd go 4-1 at the tournament, winning their pool Ö Reiner also bombed her second home run of the season Ö she is the only Herd player to hit a home run this year Ö Marshall had lost six of seven before Reiner caught fire Ö had three hits and 3 RBIs in Marshall's 7-0 win over St. Bonaventure Ö it was the most runs the Herd had scored all season Ö Reiner also stole her second base of the season Ö hit safely in all five of Marshall's games, including three multi-hit contests Ö was behind the plate when Marshall pitcher Michelle Boam tossed her first career shutout, a three-hit complete game vs. St. Bonaventure Ö also guided Boam in a 6-2 win over Providence where she struck out five without allowing a walk, and held the Friars scoreless over the final six innings.

Jennifer D'Ambrosio of St. John's University (Junior, Yonkers, NY) batted 6-13 (.461) over this past weekend. She drove home 5 runs in the Red Storm's four games this past weekend.

Jodi Chmielewski, Oregon State. The senior hit .368 in six games, going 7-19 with three doubles and four RBI. With Oregon State down, 2-1, against No. 2 Arizona, Jodi hit an RBI double with two outs in the seventh inning to tie the game and send it into extra innings. OSU won the game, 3-2, in eight innings.Chmielewski had the game-tying RBI in OSU's 2-1 win over Northridge; OSU trailed 1-0 in the fourth until Chmielewski doubled to bring home the Beavers' first run.
Chmielewski also had the game-winning RBI in OSU's 2-1 win over No. 11 Texas.

Oregon's Missy Coe, who plays both catcher and leftfield, batted .478 (11-for-23) with two doubles and three RBI to lead the Ducks to a 5-2 record at the AirTouch Cellular Capital Classic in Sacramento, Calif. She went 2-for-3 with a run scored against No.10 Michigan.

Catherine Davie, Michigan (LF/Sr./Westlake Village, Calif.) ... all-tournament at Capital Classic ... 9-for-22 (.409) over seven tournament games ... 6R, 7RBI, 2-2B, 2-HR ... game-winning solo HR vs. Baylor (3/18) ... game-winning two-run HR in ninth vs. Portland State.

Nicole Robbins, Army, outfield, freshman. Robbins batted .571 for the week with a 1.280 slugging pcercentage. She hit safely in nine of ten games and had 28 total bases, five RBI and three game-winning RBI.

Geney Orris (P/DP, Fr., Brea, Calif), University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Geney had two grand slam home runs in two days at the Kia Klassic. The first came against #4 Washington (off Jennifer Spediacci) to lift the Rebels to the 5-3 victory. The second came in the Rebels 10-6 victory over the University of Utah. On the weekend she had four hits on 14 at bats, three runs and 10 RBI. She also pitched to a 2-1 record with wins over #5 Oklahoma and Washington. She pitched 18.2 innings giving up 23 hits. She gave up 12 runs, nine earned while walking five and striking out 11.
