Outstanding Division I Performances for the week of March 22-28
BY NFCA STAFF| Melissa Coronado, University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL), Freshman right-handed pitcher from Pearland, Texas, struck out 16 batters in nine innings of work in picking up two wins this week over Florida International and Northwestern State...Allowed only one run on three hits...Against Northwestern State Thursday, Coronado struck out 10 in five innings of relief work...Currently 14-2 on season. This came after week where she struck out 34 batters in three outings at Kia Klassic last week. University of South Florida's Monica Triner, Senior, P, Gibsonton, FL/East Bay Mississippi State's Kellie Wilkerson for player of the week. Went 7-for-13 (.538) with one double, one triple and four RBI. Had 10th, 11th and 12th multi-hit games of the year, and fifth multi-RBI games of the season as Bulldogs split with 10th-ranked South Carolina and swept Eastern Division leader Georgia. Also picked up two wins over weekend and one save, her fourth of year, which is a school-record. Pitched six scoreless innings, all in relief, allowing four hits with two walks and six strikeouts, evening her record on the season at 3-3. Mississippi State has now won last four meetings with Georgia dating to last year's conference tournament. Courtney Blades, Southern Mississippi, Junior, Pitcher, Baton Rouge, La. Oregon's Katie Mackey, Senior DP, Red Bluff, California Missouri's leadoff hitter Stacy Gemeinhardt, junior outfielder, was one of the keys to Missouriís 5-2 record on their four-stop road trip this past week. The junior from Belton, MO, knocked out 10 hits and walked three times in 24 plate appearances, posting a .417 batting average anda .481 on-base percentage over the seven-game stretch. Stacy scored nine runs in those seven games including trhe game-winning runs in both of MUís victories over Oklahoma State on Sunday. The sweep of the Cowgirls in was the first ever for Mizzoui in Stillwater, OK. Gemeinhardt also picked up the game-winning hit vs. Tuls;a in a 3-2 victory. Her 14 total bases and .583 slugging percentage for the week were also tops on the team as Missouri improved to 26-12 overall. Southeast Missouri State's Jaymie Cowell, Sr., OF, Brazil, Ind.; Cowell batted .545 (6-for-11) with a 2B, HR and 4 RBIs in four games ... had a .909 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage as Southeast Missour State wins Saluki Invitational for second straight year. Michigan State junior pitcher Erica Strutz (Howell, MI) - Was 4-0, allowing one run in 22.3 innings pitched...10 strikeouts vs. Troy State...overall, 16-7 with a 1.82 ERA. Hofstra senior Keri Boller, first base (Bethpage, NY) - In six games, batted .474 (9-for-19) with three home runs, 13 RBI, one double, one triple and five runs scored. Vs. Connecticut, she hit a grand slam homer and a solo homer and knocked in five runs. Cal State Fullerton's Stephenie Little batted .500 (9 for 18) with 4 home runs and a double for a slugging percentage of 1.222. She ahd 5 rbi. Cal State Fullerton pitcher Jana Oetgen went 1-0 with an ERA of 0.00 in two starts (12.1 IP, 6 H, 5 BB, 11 SO) Catherine Davie (LF/Sr./Westlake Village, Calif.) Stanford's Marcy Crouch; Senior; Right-Handed Pitcher; Huntington Beach, CA UCLA freshman pitcher Amanda Freed. Picked up her 14th and 15th victories of the season, improving to a perfect 15-0 on the year. Held No. 13 Cal to just two hits, giving up no earned runs, in UCLA's 3-1 game-two victory over the Golden Bears on Saturday. Also added four strikeouts and went 1-for-3 at the plate. Picked up her first save on the season in UCLA's 4-3 game-one victory over Cal. On Sunday, Freed kept UCLA's perfect season intact, knocking in the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh on to defeat No. 7 Stanford 1-0 in game one. Started on the mound in game two, striking out six and allowing just one run in UCLA's 6-1 defeat of the Cardinal. Also went 1-for-3 with a run scored in game two. Owns a team best 0.58 ERA.
