Family Information

Robert E. Haven is the 10th generation of his Haven family line in America, descending from Richard Haven who came to the Massachusetts Bay Colony from England in 1644. For information on the history of that family line, see the Haven Genealogy section of this web site.

Vera Mabel Clapp Haven (May 1, 1901 - Feb 6, 1997), born in Santa Ana, California

Robert A. Haven was vice president of the Haven Seed Company of Santa Ana, California, a worldwide supplier of wholesale tomato seed. The Haven Seed Company was one of the most important businesses in Orange County, California from 1910 to 1946. Mr. Haven developed the beefsteak tomato (or an improved variety) and new varieties of the green bell pepper. Mr. Haven wrote some poetry for his own amusement, and one of his poems, "Song Of The Sea" was published in 1938, in the book "The Crown Anthology of Verse".

Mr. and Mrs. Haven were widely recognized for their achievements in stereo photography (see the newspaper article).
