A Special Friend

My Dad, of course, has had many great friends, but one special lifelong friend deserves acknowledgement.

Tom Hudspeth, Chief Scientist Hughes Electronics. One of the principal contributors to Syncom, the first geosynchronous communications satellite, and a contributor to every satellite built by Hughes Space and Communications Company.

"If it had not been for Tom Hudspeth, there would not be a Hughes Electornics Corporation today" -- Dr. Harold Rosen.

"Clearly a technical genius who has taken Hughes Space and Communications to the forefront of our business" -- Don Cromer, president Hughes Space and Communications

Journey's beginning: Tom Hudspeth (left), Dr. Harold Rosen with Syncom prototype on Eiffel Tower in 1961.

Still traveling: 30 years later, Hudspeth and Rosen near full-scale model of Syncom's sophisticated descendant, Optus B.
