Raymond Haven (b. 1823 to John Haven b. 1795)

"A Standard History of Lorain County, Ohio" includes a biography of Raymond Haven, apparently written while Raymond was still alive. It doesn't indicate any mental health problems, even though there is a comment that he "went crazy" in my Haven Family Line document.

The Haven Seed Co.

The Haven Seed Company traces back to George W. Haven and his son Edwin M. Haven in Bloomingdale, Michigan (see generations VII and VIII in My Haven Family Line). Edwin brought the company to California where it became the world's leading wholesale tomato seed supplier and one of Orange County's leading businesses in the first half of the 20th century. My grandfather, Robert A. Haven, was vice president of the company, and my father, Robert E. Haven, grew up playing on the company property and later had summer jobs bagging seed in the warehouses.

Erastus Haven (Erastus Otis Haven)

Erastus Haven was the 2nd president of the University of Michigan, later became president of Northwestern University, and later was ordained a Bishop in the Methodist Church..

Short biography at FamousAmericans.net

From my research, Erastus Haven was a descendent of Richard Haven as follows: Richard Haven (b. 1620?) -> Moses Haven (b. 1667) -> Gideon Haven (b.1728) -> Jotham Haven (Sr.) (b.1758) -> Jotham Haven Jr. (b.1787) -> Erastus Haven (b.1820)

Univerisity of Michigan Presidents history page at UM has a picture of Erastus. Haven Hall at the UM is named for this famous Haven.

The Haven Elm was a large elm tree on campus with a stone marker placed on the UM campus by the class of 1867.

Northwestern University History page identifies Erastus Haven as the University president in 1869.

North Dakota Haven Family

Haven Family Murdered I'm not aware of any relationship between this Haven family and my own, but it's an interesting and sad story that ends with North Dakota's last lynching! Haven names (included here for search engines) are: Albert Haven, Lulia Haven, Daniel Haven, Leland Haven, Charles Haven, Mary Haven.
